Patient Eligibility

From the 1 September 2010, all patients must provide proof that they are entitled to publicly funded health care before receiving treatment at Wanganui Hospital. If you are not a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident you may not be eligible for publicly funded healthcare. Click here to find out if you are eligible.

Proof of eligibility, such as a New Zealand passport or birth certificate, will only need to be presented once as your eligibility status will be recorded for future visits to the hospital.

Proof of Eligibility
You can either bring your proof of eligibility to your next hospital visit or you can take it to the Health Records Department which is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am until 4.00pm. Photocopies of documents are not acceptable, the original document must be sighted to be entitled to publicly funded healthcare.

Emergency Care
No one will be refused urgent treatment; however charges will apply for non eligible patients. After receiving emergency treatment patients have fourteen days to prove eligibility or will be invoiced for the care received.

Charges for Non-Eligible Patients
Charges are based on national pricing. Click here to view the WDHB Non-Eligible Patient Price List.
Please note that this is only a guide to the cost of treatment.
