Visiting Hours
Parents are welcome at anytime and other visitors may visit from 2pm - 8pm. However, at times it may be necessary to restrict visitors due to your child’s condition. Young brothers and sisters are welcome to visit but must be supervised by an adult.
Staying the Night
Parents and the extended family remain the main providers of care for their children in hospital. Research shows that children have a more positive experience when a support person assists with care. For fire, safety and security reasons, only ONE SUPPORT PERSON may stay the night, to assist with care.
Toys
While in hospital, toys provide distraction, relieve boredom and are a way for the child to cope with their new
environment. It is also a way for our staff to get an idea of how your child is feeling and recovering. Please feel free to bring one or two small favourite toys for your child.
Television and Entertainment
Most rooms have a TV. In shared rooms, patients and families need to be considerate of each other and the need for rest or quiet. Children’s DVD’s can be requested for viewing from the nurse’s station and there is also a good selection of children’s books on the ward.
Hospital School
There is one teacher employed by the Ministry of Education to support children who will be off school for more than two weeks. The teacher, in conjunction with the child’s own school, can provide lessons for all primary, intermediate and secondary students.
