14 February 2011

centralAlliance partners Whanganui and MidCentral District Health Boards have appointed a new joint security and fire risk manager.

The appointment follows the signing of a joint Spotless Services contract with both boards which included security provisions, and the restructuring of MDHB’s risk management organisation.

On 1 November 2010 centralAlliance, Spotless Healthcare regional manager Peter Birch welcomed David Christophers to the new role of Spotless Services’ centralAlliance regional security manager.  Mr Christophers has been with the MDHB for five years, firstly as the coordinator: protective services, and for the past three years as manager: security and fire.

Before joining the MDHB he spent 21 years with the New Zealand Army serving in various command and training roles, nationally and internationally.

Mr Christophers is excited by the opportunities the joint position will have in supporting both DHBs’ security needs. “Over the past 15 years the MDHB has remained at the forefront of healthcare security in New Zealand so it’s a great opportunity to share that security management experience,” he said.

Mr Christophers will be looking to achieve common security processes and measures across both DHBs.  “The key is to ensure the security measures support the environment for which they are employed. The two locations have differences that need to be acknowledged as part of the integrated design process”.

To date, Mr Christophers has visited every WDHB ward as well as other locations at Wanganui Hospital, to identify security support needs.

Mr Christophers is one of 32 security professionals in New Zealand who hold the Certified Protection Professional(CPP) credential. The American Society of Industrial Security award the credential to qualified individuals who have demonstrated, through credentials and examination, expertise in security management principles, concepts, technology and best practices.

Mr Christophers has also achieved the academic requirements for the RABQSA Lead Auditor: Security Management Systems. And he holds an Advance Investigator Licence in the ‘TaPRooT’ Root Cause Analysis methodology.

He’s attended advanced level Crime Prevention Environmental Design workshops nationally and internationally. He’s currently completing the Executive Security Practitioners (National Diploma in Security) Programme, through theWaikato Institute of Technology. He holds the Member credential from New Zealand Institute of Management. He’s been awarded a New Zealand Diploma in Business, the NZIM Diploma in Management, and Diploma’s in Human Resources and Small Business.

And Mr Christophers is a member of theAmerican Society of Industrial Security (New Zealand Chapter), the New Zealand Security Association and the New Zealand Society of Risk Management.
