WDHB's new sonographer impressed with hospital and...our city
back

Wanganui Hospital's two-year search for a third sonographer is over.  Former Waikato Hospital sonographer Jennifer Evanson has joined WDHB's radiology team who she says provide an outstanding service.

Ms Evanson is impressed with the hospital, her colleagues, the equipment used in radiology and, Wanganui city.

Ready for a change and new opportunities, Ms Evanson applied for several positions last year which all resulted in offers.

“I chose Wanganui because of Wanganui Hospital's impressive recruitment process,” Ms Evanson says. “I appreciated the effort the HR department put into bringing me here for an interview and the effort that went into making my move here as smooth as possible.

“I’ve been made to feel very welcome and I’m well aware there’s support here for new staff should they need it.”

After 16 years living and working in Hamilton, Ms Evanson set out to find a role that would enable her to move closer to her grown-up children. A quick drive through Wanganui on her way home to Hamilton last year was her first glimpse of the city which in a matter of months, would become home to her.

“I loved what I saw – the river, the old architecture and the hanging baskets along Victoria Avenue,” she says.

“Now I’m living here I’ve discovered Kai Iwi Beach which I find charming. And I’m looking forward to exploring the river and surrounding countryside next summer.

“Wanganui is not as small as many people think. It’s a nice sized town. It has everything you need and more.

“But most importantly, I’m impressed with Wanganui Hospital. My two colleagues are outstanding. They’re very good at their jobs. They’re highly skilled, they have very good interpersonal skills with their patients and the equipment we use here is some of the most modern on offer. It was a good decision coming to Wanganui and the hospital.”
