Whanganui District Health Board is one of the largest employers in the Whanganui region. The organisation employs approximately 1,100 staff and its service area stretches from Raetihi in the north, to Marton in the south. Wanganui Hospital is the main secondary level provider of health services in the Whanganui district with rural health centres at Taihape, Marton and Waimarino.
