Drive-through clinics have now become a strong focus for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Whanganui.

The Whanganui District Health Board will staff a drive-through clinic on Saturday at the Whanganui East Club in Wakefield Street from 10am to 1pm.

The clinic will be supported by Waka Hauora, the Health Bus, which has been donated by the Rob Bartley Foundation.

The foundation acquired an old library bus from Whanganui District Council and fitted it out as a multi-purpose mobile clinic. The late Rob Bartley, a hugely-respected Whanganui businessmen and community supporter, was the inspiration for this travelling health facility which will be a great asset to the Whanganui DHB and others.

For the drive-through vaccinations, people are being asked to stay in their vehicle, wear a mask and wear clothing that will allow easy access to the upper arm.

A DHB spokesman said the Whanganui vaccine rollout was a team effort involving the DHB, the Whanganui Regional Health Network, the Hauora Coalition and other, mainly iwi, providers.
