Developing a Māori Workforce: Activities

Te Whatu Ora Whanganui is working in a number of different ways to 'get our message out to rangatahi' in a way that encourages them to engage with us about their career choices.

The Haumoana Workforce Development Coordinator is also partnering with local school career advisors as a member of the Whanganui Careers Advisor Network. This network provides health career information to support rangatahi to choose and plan their career pathway into a career within health and most importantly, coordinate and develop career events and programmes in the region.

WDHB Health Summership Programme

As part of our wider Māori workforce strategy to build Māori capacity in the health sector, our Health Summership Programme is run in partnership with the Whanganui Regional Health Network (local PHO) and Te Oranganui Iwi Health Authority.

Whanganui Hospital Health Career Day
Each year, Whanganui Hospital hosts the annual WDHB Health Careers Day for Whanganui's Year 11 and 12 secondary school students. The day is about sharing information and supporting rangatahi to plan their career pathway into health and invest in the future of the Whanganui community.
