Laboratory services for Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawke's Bay provides people in hospital and in the community with a comprehensive diagnostic service.
Disabled access is through the main door to the Wairoa Health Centre and down the lift to the basement where the Laboratory service is located. Toilets are available within the Wairoa Health Centre.

The laboratory facility for processing test specimens and samples operates 24 hours a day, 7 days.

The Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawke's Bay laboratory service provides patients in hospital and people in the community a comprehensive diagnostic service.
Most samples from within the hospital are delivered by air tube and the test results are available electronically on site. We also offer testing to over 100 private specialists and healthcare providers across Hawke's Bay. Laboratory testing for Central Hawke’s Bay and Wairoa is performed in the Hawke’s Bay laboratory.
We perform 180 different tests with unusual or less frequently requested tests sent to other specialist testing laboratories.
Laboratory testing is performed at the main laboratory located within Hawke's Bay Hospital.
This laboratory offers the following services:
preanalytical services — phlebotomy services and central registration
biochemistry
haematology
microbiology, including serology
transfusion medicine — blood bank
anatomic pathology — histology and cytology
point-of-care testing.
Visitors should either ring the bell at reception or use the phone to contact the relevant department or staff member. The laboratory is near the Emergency Department and is accessed from the stairs near the Security office. All visiting staff are reminded that a sign-in process located in the main laboratory reception should be completed when visiting.
The laboratory also offers preanalytical services and point-of-care testing at Wairoa and Central Hawke's Bay Health Centres, and preanalytical services at Napier Health Centre.
The laboratory holds full accreditation with International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ).
