Whanganui Hospital is running a competition to select photographs to brighten up its main corridor.

WDHB is looking for pics of locals doing physical activity in our region - like this great one by Pablo Heimplatz.

Chief Executive Russell Simpson says while the District Health Board’s main focus is keeping people healthy at home, there are times when people need to come to hospital and the aim is to make it a more uplifting experience.

“Tens of thousands of people visit our therapies’ and radiology departments each year, for X-rays, scans and appointments with the physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech language therapists.

“We want to brighten that corridor and make it more welcoming using photographs taken by local people, featuring local people in local surrounds.

“The hospital belongs to the community and we want people to feel as welcome as possible when they need to be here.

“Physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language therapy are all part of supporting people to function in their everyday lives. 

“So the aim is to have photographs of people doing all those activities that make up everyday life, against local backdrops.  It would be great to see a range of photographs reflecting the diversity of our community.

“Movement and activity is not just about fit, young people excelling in sport, it is about everyone moving in ways that works for them to stay as healthy as they can,” Mr Simpson said.

The competition is open to anyone from the Whanganui DHB region: Whanganui; Rangitikei, Marton, Taihape; Waimarino, Ohakune and Raetihi.

Photographs need to be at least 6MB (megabytes) and not more than 14MB.  The larger they are the better for enlarging.  The deadline for the competition is 5pm on Friday 13 September 2019.  Entries need to be emailed to: photos@wdhb.org.nz

Successful photographers will be invited to an event to unveil their works.  Each selected photograph will have a plaque naming the photographer and where it was taken.
