Whanganui district midwives and lead maternity carers are planning a party to celebrate International Day of the Midwife on Saturday 5 May.

If you’re a past or present client, they would love you and your children to join them at the Cancer Society, 3 Koromiko Rd, Gonville between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Whanganui District Health Board charge midwife Lucy Pettit says it’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate International Day of the Midwife and the strong partnership that exists between midwives, lead maternity carers and the women they support through pregnancy and birth.

This year’s theme Midwives leading the way with quality care has been chosen to encourage good discussion among the adults who will also be able to access Smokefree advice.

For the children, there’s going to be a colouring competition, face painting, balloon making, biscuit decorating and nibbles.

Given that the theme colours for the occasion are purple and grey, participants are encouraged to wear one or both colours to the party.
