Whanganui District Health Board’s photography competition came to a dramatic conclusion last week as plastic covers were pulled away to reveal a series of wonderful images.

The photos have been mounted at Whanganui Hospital, along the first floor corridor leading to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech language therapy and radiology, creating a brighter, more welcoming environment.

The public competition – organised by the hospital’s Art and Archives Group -- attracted more than 200 entries, mostly of a very high standard.

DHB chief executive Russell Simpson thanked all those who had sent in photos, and also acknowledged how many of them had come with family and friends to make the unveiling a special occasion.

Among those attending was June Lints, whose family funded the production of the photographs in memory of June’s husband Alan, a well-known Whanganui teacher, principal and sportsman.

Mr Simpson said the quality of the photographs was so outstanding five images depicting Castlecliff were to be enlarged and mounted along the corridor leading to the Emergency Department and Whanganui Accident and Medical (WAM). Production of these photographs was funded by a grant from the Castlecliff Community Charitable Trust.

The hospital art’s group is also looking at other areas to display some of the other photographs.
